Power and Law & Order: SVU actor Isaiah Stokes has been indicted for murder in New York City. Stokes has been accused of shooting and killing a man who had been sitting inside a parked car in Jamaica, Queens in February, the Queens DA announced in a press release.
Stokes, who was arraigned July 16 before Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder, is facing a three-count indictment that includes a second degree murder charge and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. The actor will be sentenced today, and he faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
According to the charges, Feb. 7 surveillance footage shows Stokes leaving a vehicle parked at an intersection in Queens and approaching the window of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee. Stokes then allegedly shot 37-year-old Queens Village resident Tyrone Jones eleven times. Jones later died as a result of his injuries.
“The defendant is accused of unloading nearly eleven shots during this brazen afternoon shooting,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in the press release. “Gun violence is all too prevalent in our neighborhoods. We will not allow it to become the norm.”
Stokes, who was born in Queens, was raised in the South Jamaica neighborhood of Rochdale Village, per the actor’s IMDb bio. He later attended Delaware State University and began a career in music, releasing a hip hop mixtape while in college. His first acting role came in 2006, when he appeared on the Denis Leary FX series Rescue Me.
He’s since gone on to appear in Law & Order: SVU, Boardwalk Empire, The Americans, Louie, Blue Bloods, The Mysteries of Laura, and more. His most recent acting credit was in the Starz drama Power, in which he played Mozzy in a 2019 episode of the series.
