No, Congress’ staffers aren’t more important than you

1

Is Congress trying to see how low its public-approval ratings can go? It’s not just that congressmen, no matter how vulnerable, were getting the COVID-19 vaccine before needier folks; now it has announced that more than 1,000 staffers will also get the vaccine ahead of others.

Yes, many staffers play an important role in congressional operations. But three-quarters are under 40 years old, putting them at low risk. And they seem to have managed for the past nine months with no vaccine; surely they can wait another few.

Meanwhile, deliverymen, truly essential workers, the elderly and immuno-compromised face real danger with every day they don’t have access to the vaccine.

It’s just one more example of pols’ treating themselves better than everyone else: They’ve imposed lockdowns that spell death for businesses, then break the rules themselves. They stuff pricey pork for donors and special-interests into bills like the COVID relief package, while much of the nation struggles to make ends meet.

It’s said “No man’s life, liberty or property is safe while the Legislature is in session.” Maybe they should all just go home.
