Indiana teen charged for fatally shooting dad after pal first took blame

An Indiana teen has been arrested for shooting and killing his father — after his pal first took the blame for the man’s death, authorities said.

James Beau Burkhart, 16, allegedly fired two shots at his 59-year-old father, James Jason Burkhart, after inviting him to his friend’s home in Centerville, Fox59 reported.

Footage taken from home security cameras captured the younger Burkart’s 15-year-old friend agreeing to take the blame for the fatal shooting on Dec. 15, according to court documents.

The friend then took two handguns and fled in the elder Burkart’s car, while James Beau returned home and said that his friend had shot his father, authorities said.

The pal then led cops on a chase until he crashed into a ditch near Columbus, Ohio, the outlet reported.

He was taken to the hospital and later told authorities that he shot the elder Burkart, authorities said.

But detectives pulled the footage from the home security camera which revealed the teens discussing the murder — including the details that James Beau had shot his father in the head, the outlet reported.

Both James Beau and his unidentified friend were arrested on murder charges, the outlet reported. The friend also faces a vehicular theft charge.
