While the Emmy Awards carried on through the pandemic last year, this year’s show is inching back to normal. For its 73rd year, the awards show is bringing on Cedric the Entertainer as host and welcoming a reduced live audience made up of nominees and their guests.
But before we get to the show, it’s time to learn who’s up for the coveted awards. Today, Ron Cephas Jones and Jasmine Cephas Jones, along with Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma, will reveal the nominees for the 2021 Emmys. The announcements begin at 11:30/10:30c and will be available to stream on the Emmys website.
This year, Netflix’s Bridgerton and The Crown are expected to win big on the drama side, with The Crown continuing its awards season sweep a year after it won big in 2020. And with Pose saying goodbye with its final season this year, the Ryan Murphy ballroom drama has a good chance of a nomination after missing out last year.
As for comedies, there are fewer eligible series due to the pandemic, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to choose from. We can expect to see Netfilx’s The Kominsky Method, plus new entries like Hulu’s Pen15 and awards favorite Ted Lasso. HBO has strong contenders too, between smash hits Hacks and The Flight Attendant.
The 73rd Emmy Awards will air Sunday, Sep. 19 at 8/7c on CBS.
Here’s your full list of 2020 Emmy nominees. Decider will update this list as nominations are announced.
